PSAT – electrical gizmo

    psat — The Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) is a Matlab toolbox for electric power system analysis and simulation it is developed by Dr. Fedrico Milano. its an open source project developed in matlab

PSAT

the main features of psat are :

  • Power Flow;
  • Continuation Power Flow; Optimal Power Flow;
  • Small Signal Stability Analysis; Time Domain Simulation; Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) Placement; Complete Graphical User Interface; User Defined Models; FACTS Models; Wind Turbine Models; Conversion of Data Files from several Formats;
  • Interfaces to GAMS and UWPFLOW Programs;
  • Command Line Usage; and GNU Octave Compatibility.

the most use full features of PSAT a power flow and optimal power flows. we can have user defined models .its has a very good GUI interface . one unique feature is that simulink based library provides an user friendly tool for network design,and analyze under PSAT.

software like distribution planning,network reconfiguration can be developed using this tool box. Some of us can work them out.

Other open source software like MATPOWER , are available with limited features. if u find more open source software in electric engg plz post here.
